International Women’s Day: Celebrating our hardworking women at Butterworth Barlow

8 March 2025 marked International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The success of our firm is driven by the expertise and dedication of our team, of which women make up over 70 per cent.

We are hugely proud of our female colleagues here at Butterworth Barlow. Their success is our success, and we are dedicated to supporting their professional development and championing their achievements.

Katie McDonough, our Office Administrator, is the behind-the-scenes powerhouse keeping the Butterworth Barlow office running like clockwork.

From organising the day-to-day to making sure everything’s on track, Katie’s the one holding it all together.

When she’s not keeping things organised at work, she’s likely teaching yoga, hitting the gym or out for walks with her dog – indeed, her proud title is Ollie’s dog mum!

She also loves catching up with friends, and family, and travelling whenever she can. Before Butterworth Barlow, Katie was the practice manager at a pregnancy scanning clinic.

Katie said: “I chose an admin role in accountancy to combine my organisational skills with a sector that offers growth and stability, and as a woman, it means contributing to a field where diverse perspectives are increasingly valued.”

Our Payroll Manager Lindsey Foster-Flood echoed Katie’s sentiments about the benefits of being a woman in accountancy: “Being a female payroll manager comes with many benefits, both professionally and personally. Most companies need payroll management, making it a secure career choice and many payroll positions allow for remote or hybrid work, giving women more flexibility to balance career and personal life.”

Lindsey ensures the payroll side of things runs smoothly and loves helping clients and working with a fantastic team.

Born and raised in Litherland, Lindsey enjoys watching football (especially her beloved Everton) when she’s not busy being a personal chef and chauffeur to her four kids. She also loves daily walks on the beach with her dog, Bella.

Lindsey’s achievements stretch beyond the office: she recently took part in a charity boxing fight – and won!

The accounting profession has not always been as welcoming and diverse as it is today, as our Accounts Manager Amy Mannix observes: “Historically, accounting was a male-dominated field, and women have had to break barriers to gain leadership positions in accounting firms.

“Today, female accountants continue to advocate for equal opportunities in career advancement and pay equality. I’m proud to say that I work with some incredible female accountants and that 73 per cent of our workforce are women.”

Amy brings her skills in finance and management to help our clients get the most out of their business.

She loves meeting new and interesting people through her work and building those valuable client connections.

Born and raised in Prescot, Amy has an AAT qualification and previously worked as a practice manager at another accountancy firm.

When she’s not in the office, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and going on holiday.

Interestingly, Amy once dreamed of being a forensic pathologist before she ended up taking a remarkably different career path! Personally and professionally, we are very grateful.

Katie, Lindsey, and Amy are a credit to the team at Butterworth Barlow, and we are hugely proud of their achievements.

From humble beginnings in 2009, our firm has grown into a close-knit team of professionals who are passionate about helping, supporting and championing the businesses that we work with.
