This month marks a remarkable milestone for our fantastic Senior Manager, Amy Henwood, who is celebrating 10 years at Butterworth Barlow!
To honour the occasion, we surprised Amy with a great day out in Manchester – complete with fine dining at Gusto Manchester and some competitive fun at The Big Manchester Bake, where we channelled our inner Mary Berry.
“I am a very hard person to surprise, but wow – the team definitely surprised me for our day out and I had no idea at all it was happening, the day was great and completely unexpected.”
There were plenty of laughs, especially when Amy and Barry’s sugar caught fire during the bake-off – a moment that won’t be forgotten any time soon!
Born and raised in Liverpool, Amy is one of six siblings (yes, really) and when she’s not at work, she’s either on walks with her puppy, Alfie, or enjoying yoga with Katie from admin.
Upon discovering that she wasn’t enjoying her Maths and Finance course at the University of Liverpool, Amy’s next-door neighbour (who worked with Gavin’s brother at the time) arranged a call with Gavin and Barry so that Amy could seek advice from small business owners.
It soon transpired that Barry and Gavin were looking for a new apprentice, and after their call, Gavin emailed Amy to offer her a job. She accepted, joining Butterworth Barlow in 2014, and has been part of the team ever since – except for that one year when she swapped spreadsheets for adventures in Australia, where she skydived in Cairns and scuba-dived the Great Barrier Reef!
When she returned, she was met with a growing team – a reflection of how far the business has come. “When I started, it was just Gavin, Barry, Natalie and Claudia – so to now have a team of 14 is a big change. It’s been amazing to be part of that journey from the beginning.”
Amy completed her AAT qualifications before going on to complete her ACA in August 2021. She loves working with the team and building great relationships with clients. As a senior manager and qualified ACA (ICAEW), Amy is all about making sure everything runs smoothly.
Reflecting on her 10 years at Butterworth Barlow, “I’ve truly loved working here – my colleagues have become more than just teammates; they’re friends for life. Even during my year in Australia, I stayed in touch with everyone, which says a lot about the strength of the team. One of the best parts of the job is getting to know our clients and watching their businesses grow. I’ve built some great relationships and it’s incredibly rewarding to help them achieve their goals. I’m looking forward to continuing to learn, growing as a manager, and seeing what the future holds with Butterworth Barlow!” Amy shared.
Congratulations on an incredible 10 years, Amy – here’s to the next chapter!
