At Butterworth Barlow, we’re passionate about supporting young people into the accounting profession and providing valuable work experience opportunities.
Recently, Barry Barlow’s very own daughter, Amelia Barlow, spent a week in our offices gaining insights into the tricks of the trade and stepping into the shoes of her father’s hardworking team.
Amelia shared her thoughts on her work experience.
“Overall, I found it a very exciting and interesting experience which helped me to understand more about accountancy and the work life.
“Everything I did, I enjoyed, but in particular, I enjoyed doing income reconciliations.”
Amelia adds that the work she completed exceeded her expectations.
During her week at the firm, Amelia got involved with helping to wrap gifts for a client, completing some office admin, and doing income reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
“I learnt in more depth how to use spreadsheets and what accountants use them for, as well as how to do bank reconciliations.”
Amelia found working with the team at Butterworth Barlow to be a positive experience, and praised our staff for being welcoming and supportive.
“Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and always happy to help me whenever I needed it.
“[They] made me feel as if I was also a part of the workplace and supported me if I didn’t understand anything.”
Amelia’s work experience at Butterworth Barlow has completely changed how she feels about the accounting profession.
“Before I came [here], I believed that some parts of accountancy may be boring, but everything I have done this week has been fun and interesting.”
Amelia adds that she would “definitely” consider working in this field in the future.
Upon reflection, Amelia believes she could have offered to help out with more jobs during her placement.
When asked what she would say to someone doing work experience at Butterworth Barlow, Amelia said: “It’s a great opportunity and very enjoyable.”
We are delighted that Amelia enjoyed her time at Butterworth Barlow and that the experience challenged her preconceptions of the accounting profession.
